What happened

In its Microsoft update for September 2026, Pax8 outlined several program changes coming to Cloud Solution Provider partners. The largest is a new growth margin that Microsoft introduces in October 2026. Partners earn a higher total margin when they drive qualifying customer growth, which Pax8 defines as new-to-offer sales, seat expansion or strategic mix. The growth margin includes the base margin rather than stacking on top of it.

The margin covers license-based CSP offers for Microsoft 365 Copilot, Microsoft 365 E5, Microsoft 365 E7, Microsoft Defender Suite, Microsoft Purview Suite and Windows 365 Enterprise. Nonprofit, education and government SKUs are excluded.

Pax8 also reported that three situations no longer count as a Change of Channel Partner event: a customer moving between resellers under the same distributor, a reseller switching distributors while keeping the customer, and authorization changes where the partner keeps the same PGA. Partners that meet normal requirements continue earning incentives in those cases.

Separately, Microsoft published an updated Microsoft Partner Agreement and CSP Program Guide focused on privacy, security, compliance and business practices. For most CSP partners it takes effect automatically on December 1, 2026, and partners can accept it earlier in Partner Center. Pax8 also listed several time-limited promotions, including discounts on Microsoft 365 E7 and Copilot Business that run through December 31, 2026.

What it means for the books

A margin that depends on growth means cost per seat for the same SKU may differ from month to month or customer to customer. MSPs that resell these products can compare distributor invoices against expected cost each month, and record any margin true-ups or corrections in a consistent account rather than netting them into licensing cost without notes.

Promotional discounts with expiration dates are worth tracking at the subscription level. When a promotion ends at renewal, cost rises while the customer price may stay fixed, so a renewal calendar tied to client billing helps catch margin changes before they appear in the close.

Finally, the December 1 agreement change is a reasonable point to file the current version alongside other vendor contracts.
